Description:
It is a chestnut brown colour, with a lightly bubbly head. Nose is extremely fruity - apples, plums and bananas are all noticeable, although these become more obvious as the beer warms (it was served from the fridge so was rather cold initially). In the mouth it is initially malty, with caramel, toffee and dark fruit flavours, plus a roasty, grainy touch. The hops soon kick in to balance it, giving it a bitter, dry, slightly lemony character, even a little vegetal (Challenger hops are used), although the malt is still the dominant flavour. Finish is of bitter, crunchy roast malt and a touch of flowery hop. This bottle was not at all bad to start with and clearly improved as it warmed - a well-balanced and fairly complex ale, very enjoyable after a hard day's walking in the Lakes [courtesy of OBBD]
